About The Vons Foundation

The Vons Foundation was started in 1995 as a grassroots fundraising program.  Today it continues with a grassroots approach to make donations to many local organizations which address a broad spectrum of social issues.

The Foundation has grown over the years, thanks in large part to Vons and Pavilions employees participation through the Community Champions Payroll Deduction program which began in 2001.  Employees are encouraged to give back to the communities they serve by making a payroll deduction pledge to the Vons Foundation.  It is through their generosity that the Foundation has adopted the motto, “Vons Foundation:  Employees Making a Difference.”

The Annual Vons Foundation Golf Classic is the primary fundraiser for the Vons Foundation.  Each fall, over 150 golfers, primarily Vons officers, administrators and associates, as well as many of Vons’ vendor and supplier partners, enjoy a lighthearted game of golf to raise funds for the Foundation.

In 2008, the Vons Foundation merged with The Safeway Foundation and continues the mission of supporting local organizations.
