Message from Larree Renda
Chair, The Safeway Foundation

At Safeway, giving back to make a difference has always been part of how we do business.  The Safeway Foundation supports our commitment to serve the communities in which we live and work.

I’m proud of the Foundation’s accomplishments in 2007.  Thanks to the generosity of our employees, suppliers and customers, we were able to make $172 million in cash and in-kind donations to hundreds of non-profit organizations throughout our operating areas.

One shining example is the Safeway-sponsored mobile mammography units that are helping to provide hundreds of women with free or low-cost mammography screenings.  Currently we are sponsoring five such programs that are reaching women in rural or underserved areas who otherwise would not receive this potentially life-saving procedure.  We are also proud to partner with premier cancer research centers across the country.  By supporting the best and the brightest with Safeway cancer research grants, we believe we are on course to finding a cure for cancer.

We support national organizations like the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Easter Seals and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  At the same time, we believe local non-profit organizations are the backbone of every community, so the Foundation is equally proud to support their important work as well.

We have redesigned our website to familiarize you with the activities and fundraising results of The Safeway Foundation.  As you review these remarkable achievements, I’m sure you will share my pride each time you visit your local Safeway store.
